It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words, but video may be worth a million. Speech therapy video recording is already a tool that sees widespread use in clinics throughout the country. Clinical video recording is extremely useful for helping with intake decisions, active learning techniques, performance evaluation, and documentation of progress.
Speech & Language Session Mobile Video Recorder
Intelligent Video Solutions has taken SLP video recording to the next level by making it fully mobile. Our flagship Valt video recording system already enables clinics to record high-definition video of speech therapy sessions from any angle, but what about sessions that take place away from the clinic? Our new Beam mobile recording app makes this easy — recordings can be made at any time, in any place.
Beam is an iOS video recording application that can be installed on any iPhone or iPad. Beam records high-quality video that is automatically synced with the Valt server back at the clinic — no formatting or categorization is necessary from the user. The individual video clips can be annotated with session notes, and Beam automatically applies metadata to each segment to facilitate later lookup and cataloging.
How Does the Beam Recording App Work?
Beam makes recording speech and language therapy sessions easy. With Beam automating the entire process, there is no need for the clinician to waste time with the technical aspects of video recording. All video recorded with Beam is stored on the secure Valt server, fully encrypted and protected by stringent user authentication protocols.
Beam can run in offline mode, with video later syncing to the main server, or can be used to live-stream video from any remote location — authorized persons can view clinical sessions in real-time from any Valt-enabled browser.
The benefits of using video to record speech therapy sessions are numerous. For therapists who focus on clinical research, video can capture the qualitative performance changes that are not captured by standardized testing. Therapy centers can use video for educational purposes and active learning strategies as it promotes discussion between colleagues and between clinical instructors and students.
Perhaps most importantly, video provides an audio-video documentation of patient performance that allows for a more in-depth analysis in their evaluation. Using video to document patient progression is an equally-powerful tool for clinicians, allowing the therapy provider to set realistic goals, follow-up plans, and session supervision. Using a mobile video capture device can also help with insurance appeals, as many insurance companies are now looking for more validation and documentation on the benefits of SLP therapy.
For these, and many other reasons, speech pathology video recording has greatly increased in popularity and usefulness. The Beam app from IVS simply makes the power of video much simpler, more portable, and easily accessible. IVS can even create custom kits for your clinic, with specific add-ons to improve the recording experience and tackle any possible challenge.
