The Challenge
Southeast Community College, located in the southeast corner of Nebraska, offers a wide range of programs and services across a fifteen-county service area. With the opening of the Health Science Building in November 2019, which houses eighteen high-demand health science programs, the college needed a versatile and affordable video recording solution. This solution was essential to enhance the training of healthcare students, facilitate self-reflection and collaboration, and provide specific feedback in a real-life learning environment. The solution had to be easy to use for both faculty and students while being fiscally responsible.
The Solution
In search of a comprehensive A/V solution, Southeast Community College discovered VALT, an intelligent video solution designed for educational institutions. After evaluating several options, the faculty found VALT to be their first choice due to its cost-effectiveness, ease of use, and scalability. A Southeast Community College faculty member noted, 'The faculty all found it to be their first choice in really providing them something they would use and they found value in and could see a fit for each of their programs.' The college adopted VALT to facilitate self-reflection, collaboration, and specific feedback across its eighteen health science programs. An Associate Degree Nursing Faculty Member shared, 'They learn from it. They see their mistakes. It helps me to be flexible with my time, which helps them because I have more time to spend with them.'
The Results
After implementing VALT, Southeast Community College saw significant improvements in the training and job readiness of its healthcare students. The platform's ability to support self-reflection, collaboration, and specific feedback enabled students to enhance their skills effectively. The scalability and cost-effectiveness of VALT allowed the college to meet the healthcare demands of the rural community efficiently. The college's faculty and staff highly valued the support provided by VALT's team, with a staff member stating, 'One of the things I highly value about IVS is their support, and we have loved working yet to have a problem that they're not willing to solve.' With 80-90 faculty members involved and a service area spanning fifteen counties, the adoption of VALT proved to be a game-changer for Southeast Community College's health science programs.
